General News, Harrington HouseChanges, Past & Present March 25, 2021 | by FHS Office The transformation of Harrington House's interior involves updating door widths to ADA standards and renovating our former reception space to create a small kitchen and accomodate a larger exhibit space with improved flow and accessibility. Peeling back the layers of Harrington House provides hints of previous renovations to the building. This wallpaper fragment was hidden behind a pipe. Initial estimates are that it may date to roughly 1890, but more research is necessary to date it definitively. When we pulled up the floor in the reception area we found a hint at the room's previous use: a bathroom! Which solves the mystery of where the downstairs bathroom was when upstairs rooms were being rented to tennants and sharing the second-floor restroom. Harrington House, History, Renovation
